Inspired by the film “Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap“, this installation and performance piece takes the gesture of “deconstructing“ a rap verse/song and expands its application to every syllable of every word rather than just the words in the relevant rhyme scheme. Doing this, as well as extracting larger-than-life scenes from the words in the verses/songs, spotlights the amount of time and consideration that goes into crafting a piece of HipHop music and stands as a rich example of why HipHop deserves the same reverence as any other art form such as painting, theatre, dance, metalworking, etc.
When listening to any piece of HipHop music, consider the marriage that must be made between diction, cadence, melody, harmony, and technology in order for you to have the privilege of enjoying it. You are witnessing magic and magicians should be treated as such.
